Let’s talk about the power of words and thoughts. Sometimes as Christians, we are blinded by the impact of the words we speak and thoughts we think. We have to become more aware of what we are speaking and thinking. I know at times we joke around and say things we don’t mean, but sometimes we think negative thoughts in our conscience without knowing the deep understanding behind it. The enemy is preying and looking for an open door to cast doubt, fear, uncertainty, and so much more. The bible says “ Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits” (Proverbs 18:21 ESV). This means that whatever you speak can either bring life or death into your situation. Think of it like this, if you are continuously speaking words that are negative over your life, you will see yourself becoming disengaged, less motivated, and depressed. When you speak negative words, you tend to believe and act on the things you speak without even realizing it. When you speak positively, an opposite reaction will take place. You will see yourself being more positive, motivated, and driven. Your whole persona will change because you are much freer. Your thoughts work the same way. Your mind can sometimes feel like a battlefield, where your thoughts are jumping from one place to the next. Our mind is a place where we analyze ourselves based on experiences, morals, values, and more. Our mind can be a place where we have set such high standards on ourselves, that we start to inflict doubt, fear, anxiety, and more. That's the thing: we are not aware as Christians that we have the power and authority to speak over our thoughts. His word says “Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you” (Luke 10:9 ESV). This means that God has placed inside of us the power to tear down every negative thing that comes into our minds and lives. For God reminds us that as Christians we will always be in a consistent battle against our flesh. Society has corrupted our minds to think of ourselves as less than worthy and loved. Culture has told us that we have not reached the standards that the world has set for us. The environment that we are in can also impact how we think and speak. Even the peers that we surround ourselves with can impact how we speak. His word says “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Romans 12:2). That means that we should not conform to what society says we should be. By asking God daily to renew your mind, you're asking God to remove those expectations that you and society have set. You’re asking God to come in and shift that mindset, so you end up truly believing that you are worthy of prosperity once you speak life over yourself. We have to come to a place where our minds are fixed on God. His word says “ Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because of he trusteth in thee” ( Isaiah 26:3). When we fix our minds on God, He will give you peace in the storm. For when our mind stays on Him and we trust Him with everything that we are, He will keep us. He will remove every thought that casts fears and doubts, and turn it into hope and trust.
